COP24 or the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take place on the 3rd – 14th of December 2018 in Katowice. The event will be attended by nearly 40000 delegates from all over the world, including heads of governments and ministers responsible for environment and climate issues.
The UN delegates discussed the status of preparations for the upcoming conference, as well as the expected results of the summit with the representatives of the Ministry of Environment.
“The COP 24 Summit is going to be an extremely important event for the international climate policy, and Poland will certainly meet the demands of its organisation”, said the Minister of the Environment Henryk Kowalczyk.
“The summit in Katowice will be another milestone in global climate policy after the COP21 Summit in Paris. I am glad that Poland will be coordinating the development of a set of procedures – the so-called implementation package”, said Sławomir Mazurek, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Environment.
In order to ensure efficient organisation of the summit, an inter-ministerial COP24 Summit Organisation Team was established, comprising the competent ministers, as well as representatives of authorities responsible for safety, the Silesian voivode and representatives of local governments.
You can learn more about the Organisation Team in the COP24 tab on the Ministry’s website.(Link opens in a new window)
The plan for the COP24 summit is to adopt a full package implementing the Paris Agreement. The Agreement is the first international agreement in history, which compels all countries in the world to take action on climate protection. The implementation package will allow for the implementation of the Agreement in practice. It will thus set global climate and energy policy for the coming years.
