According to a recent article published by The Guardian, the IPCC has warned that carbon emissions must be cut drastically to avoid “severe, widespread, and irreversible impacts” on the global population and the environment. In a recent report, it illustrated how climate change has already increased the risk of severe heat waves and other extreme weather, which in turn could contribute to global food shortages and violent conflicts. In a statement during the report’s launch, UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon urged action from leaders including the need to reduce investment in fossil fuels and move towards renewable energy.
