Joint statements from the national science academies of the G7 nations were released today in advance of the G7 Summit to be held in La Malbaie, Canada, on June 8 and 9, 2018. The statements are intended to inform discussions at the summit. One of the statements calls for actions to secure a digital future – harnessing technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, crowdsourcing, big data analytics, and blockchain – that is inclusive, democratically governed, resilient, and ethically minded. The other statement proposes a vision of broad international collaboration to support and enhance basic Arctic research endeavors and cooperation that promote healthy and thriving coastal communities in the context of changing ocean systems.
G7 Science Academies’ Joint Statements 2018:
- The Global Arctic: Sustainability of Communities in the Context of Changing Ecosystems
- Realizing Our Digital Future and Shaping Its Impact on Knowledge, Industry, and the Workforce
A yearlong series of G7 Research Summits inspired by the statements will take place throughout 2018.
