Newly relaxed rules will allow unvaccinated travellers to attend the COP26 conference in November. The special relaxation of the coronavirus rules has been agreed by the Scottish and UK governments so that thousands more people will be able to attend the event than had recently been estimated.
Organisers estimate that 20-25,000 representatives form all over the world will participate in the Glasgow event.
The relaxed rules will mean that the isolation period for vaccinated people visiting from red-list countries will be reduced from ten to five days. Visitors from amber and green-list counties won’t be required to isolate, whether or not they are vaccinated.
Hotels close to the airport will be designated for those isolating before the conference. It has not yet been decided what to do with any delegates who test positive during the conference.
A conference official said that conference delegates were being strongly advised to have had two corronavirus jabs before coming to the Glasgow event, however would not be turning away anyone who had not been vaccinated.
