Boosting Action – Alliances and Coalitions Forum

cop22

In order to maintain the positive “spirit of Paris”, where the historic universal Climate Change Agreement was clinched, the incoming Moroccan Presidency of COP 22 is organizing the first Alliances and Coalitions Global Forum in collaboration with the French Presidency of COP 21, the United Nations Secretary-General, the UNFCCC and Peru.

The forum will be held on 23 and 24 June in Rabat, Morocco, with the goal of laying the foundations for the organization of the high-level event on climate action, planned for COP 22 in Marrakech, Morocco. This event will also be an occasion to strengthen the coordination of climate action among alliances and coalitions, and to encourage the emergence of new voluntary initiatives.

This forum will also offer a good opportunity for coalitions to discuss, in a sectoral manner, their implementation and plans for Marrakech, and their possible cooperation and synergies.

During this meeting, the high-level champions will showcase their vision and expectations, according to an inclusive approach, to maintain action and strengthen voluntary initiatives to accelerate the pathway from 2 °C to 1.5 °C.

The first global forum of alliances and coalitions will gather many leaders, policy-makers, economic operators, experts committed to climate action (about 300 participants) and will be an occasion for in- person discussions on the written consultations launched after the sessions of the subsidiary bodies in Bonn, Germany, by the champions.
