Lima, Sep. 15. – The European Union Ambassador to Peru, Irene Horejs, says the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP20) in Lima will contribute to reach new environmental agreements for the good of the planet.
“The 180 countries meeting in Peru need to reach an agreement. This is a huge diplomatic challenge for the COP20 presidency assumed by Peru. Of course, there is no need to start from scratch, because work has been carried out since COP19 held in Cancun,” she stated.
In an interview with Andina news agency, she disclosed that the meeting in Lima is a lead-up to COP21 scheduled for 2015, when the first global decisions will be taken in order to improve environmental conditions around the world and later come into effect starting 2020.
The head of the EU Delegation to Peru said that only a few things should be left pending for Paris.
On the other hand, Horej expressed her satisfaction concerning the organization of COP20 in charge of Peru, host of this year event.
“The Peruvian Presidency is being supported around the world. Everybody recognizes the leadership, determination, and diplomatic capability of Peru,” she pointed out.
Finally, the ambassador claimed that politicians, businessmen and population in general have to be convinced the green economy will come true.
